Centenary has sleeping accommodation for 12, has a gas cooker (four rings, grill and oven) and fridge, two toilets and a shower. There is a hot water and heating system. Four bunk beds are available in a forward cabin, four more in an aft cabin. The two dinettes fore and aft of the galley convert to two double beds. Allcooking equipment, crockery and cutlery is provided.Hirers must provide their own food and bedding. The water supply will need refilling every day at canal side taps provided for this purpose. The toilets have holding tanks which will need pumping out at a boatyard during longer trips. Mooring equipment and keys for working the locks are provided. Gas and fuel should last the trip without replenishment. Lifejackets are provided. The boat is licensed for use on the canals. If agreed with the Administrator (extra training may be needed), use on rivers will require the user to buy an additional licence.
Who can use Centenary
Centenary can be hired by any bone fide youth organizations such as Youth Clubs, Scouts, Guides and Schools. Young people should be between the age of 10 and 26. Special needs organizations can be older. RYA training courses are available to any individuals. For Centenary hirings there must be at least two leaders one of whom must have undertaken a recognised training such as a Helmsman Course or Scout or Guide Leader course described on our RYA Training page. The second leader requires narrowboat experience. Crew discipline is an important factor in water safety; the leader is responsible for maintaining appropriate discipline. This allows up to 10 young people each trip. Mixed groups are possible, but please study the arrangement of beds on the plan above. Disabled people can participate, but wheelchairs are not practical due to access and evacuation problems. Steps and gang planks need to be negotiated so physical disabilities need consideration.
